Cameras

This is really fascinating to me. I knew they were out there but while back I stumbled across a really fantastic site that had so many links to live cameras all over the world. I couldn't believe it! And they were mostly pretty decent ones. I've included a link to that site below, as well as some that will show you my city or places I've been.

You know by now, if you have been following my site the way I intended, that one of my most consuming things to do is talking to people from other places, especially other countries (and, hey, most of the US is another country from Texas, right?). You can learn so many little tiny things.

Like, did you know that in Portuguese, you don't say o's like an "o"? You say it like a "u" or "oo". I've learned this from my charming and very special friend Paulo from Lisbon, whom I met in Chat (now would be a good time to check out chatting because these two are so closely tied together), except you say that like Paulu...but I find this hard to say because, being in Texas, I am used to hearing a Mexican sort of Paulo.  Hey, an update to this is that he is here now, right here with me, in Austin...can you believe it?  You never know what you will find in Internet, hahaha.

Anyway, being able to actually SEE what it looks like, live, in those places or somewhere close adds a whole new dimension to it for me. My amazing friends from the Netherlands sent me an actual video tape (thank you forever, Martien) of them, their homes, their lives, even driving with the video camera in hand.  It's incredible the feeling of actually being there, you know?   I wish all my friends from other countries could do this but until I convince them of it, maybe I could just get them to go and wave at those cameras, ha!

Enough talking, let's go see what it's like.

Some places I've been:

Austin

Surfside (grew up not far from here...hey! doesn't that background look sort of familiar...haven't I seen that somewhere before???)

La Jolla (this is three cams)

Cities or countries of some friends (these things keep changing, I've had to remove the Lisbon ones until I find good ones again):

Canada (Montreal, of course...this site has several cameras in the area and they are adding more all the time.)

Tons and tons of more camera sites can be found at:

Gates96 (one of the best cam sites for the world I've ever seen)

EarthCam

Not exactly camera sites but distant places related:

And if you made it this far, here's my camera (did I mention

that Paulo works now at a computer store? discounts!).  I'm

experimenting so bear with me on this thing, it should load

an image about every minute if I'm home and it's on.

Otherwise you'll get the last image.
