Gardening

Hmmm, looks like I'm wimping out at gardening these days.  I still have a few herbs, parsley, basil, garlic chives, mint, and some cacti and a couple of other green plants.  Oh, and some peppers as always, habaneros and jalepenos.  I did put up some pickles this last summer (though most of those have been inhaled by Mart, haha)  and some peach and strawberry preserves but not much else.

I LOVE to grow my own vegetables when I can, but it's interesting to try this without a real yard to use. I've had mixed results using containers. But my cats still love to tromp through even these (poor lizards!). Mostly I grow herbs so that I have them fresh for cooking or at least I can dry them for later. And I get decent results with jalapeno and habanero peppers (right Karl?). I guess I get enough sun for that. I have a dear friend who can grow absolutely anything (Hi Carol!) but she has moved to east Texas now so I have to go buy my fresh veggies or take a loooong drive. But, we have a pretty good Travis County Farmers Market here that is mostly local growers. Or, there's always Central Market. If you have had any success with vegetables that grow well in containers that don't get a whole lot of sun, please email me this instant.
