The Jojes
Let me tell you about some very special friends of mine. This is a band from Schagen. They have interesting times ahead of them I think. So find out a little more about them and listen to a bit of their music and see what you think. I know they'd always like to hear from you. At the bottom, I've included some information on how to contact them. And NEW, Jos has started a webpage for the group. You can visit it by clicking here.
Hmmm, how to explain how I came across them? Well, Chat of course! About the fourth time I went into MS Chat, I got whispered by someone named DutchJos who intrigued me. I saw that he was from the Netherlands and, since I didn't know ANYTHING about that country except for windmills and tulips and wooden shoes, I decided to chat with him. We connected really strong in that first conversation. We talked for a few minutes and when I looked up, four hours had passed!
I think this surprised us both and as we were saying goodbye and commenting on how the time had passed, he mentioned something about having a gig later that night. Well, you can imagine how this caught my attention! I almost shouted, "What?! Did you say 'gig'...as in music?".
So, here's how the story unfolds. There's a family by the name of Way in the Schagen area of the Netherlands. Two of the brothers are Jos and Wim. You pronounce Jos like Yos with a long o...like post. Wim is pronounced Veem and Way is pronounced Vi with a long i...like Hi. A friend of theirs is Martien Brantenaar and that's pronounced like Marrrrteen.
So together they have formed a band called The Jojes. What? You don't know what Jojes means? Well, it is a shortcut for the word jongens which is pronounced youngens and it means roughly The Guys. You pronounce Jojes like Yoyez. Here's how the band is made up. Click on their names to see a little more information and maybe a few pictures.
Martien Brantenaar - Vocals and Guitar
Jos Way - Guitars and Vocals
Wim Way - Bass Guitar and Vocals
Edo de Lang - Drums
They began playing together only a few years ago, Edo a few months ago, if you can believe it! They've played a couple of gigs and have I think three CD's (still waiting on the latest guys). You can also download some of their songs from their site, mp3's, they're not the quality as on the CD but hey, it's free! So go check it out and be sure to email them at jojes@jojes.myweb.nl.
